We have a short and simple account of a leper being cleansed in Matthew 8:1-4. It is described in this way: "When He was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him and, behold, there came a leper and worshipped Him, saying, Lord, if Thou wilt, Thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them." Much, however, is packed into this brief account. Jesus came to the point of this man's need. The leper worshipped and expressed trust (faith) in Jesus for healing. He recognized Jesus as Lord. He wanted to be freed from his loathsome disease. Jesus was quick to respond. The man was cleansed and healed of his disease. Jesus then instructed him to do what was necessary for giving a testimony of his deliverance. Substitute "sin(s)" for leprosy, "Forgiveness" for healing (and cleansing) and "Christ's church" for going to the priest, and you have a wonderful composite picture of salvation. Selah! The disease of sin is far worse than leprosy, and the forgiveness and cleansing accessed by simple trust in Jesus as Savior and Lord is far more wonderful than this marvelous physical cure. What a testimony! Ron
